The alcaldía states that all ten docks are open every day of the year. There is no ticket office, no allocation and no advance list for hiring a trajinera. You walk to the water, you agree a rate and a duration, and you get on a boat. That is the whole process, and it is the process that has been in place a great deal longer than any booking site. What is not guaranteed is the specific thing you saw a photograph of. A particular kind of boat, a guide who speaks your language, a small group, a sunrise slot — those are not things you can turn up and request at a gate.

When booking ahead earns its keep

You want a guide in a specific language. All eight tours here run with a live guide in English and Spanish; the tequila boat and the boat party add French.
You want a small group. The food and trajinera walk with local women is capped at eight participants. That cap is the product; it is not something you can arrange at a dock.
You want a fixed time. Sunrise and sunset kayak slots are scheduled departures, not something running continuously.
You want the price settled in advance. A per-person price you paid online removes the negotiation entirely, which for some readers is the whole value.

The one week I would book something in advance

La Flor Más Bella del Ejido runs 22–29 March 2026 — the 239th edition, free to enter, with 1.5 million visitors expected, announced by Mayor Circe Camacho. That is the only hard crowd number anybody publishes about this place. If your trip overlaps it, expect the docks and the roads around them to be under pressure and plan accordingly. What free cancellation actually means here

In practice that means booking is a hedge rather than a commitment: hold the slot, look at the weather, and if the last week of your trip goes sideways you cancel it. Between May and October the rain here arrives in the afternoon and evening, and a trajinera is open-sided under a fabric roof, so that flexibility is worth something real.

The canal itself. Nobody sells a skip-the-crowd option on a Sunday afternoon at Nativitas, because the crowding is a function of how many boats that dock runs — about 220 of them — and not of who you booked with. If crowding is your concern, the lever is the dock and the hour, not the reservation. That is which dock to leave from and when the boats actually run.
